Final Day at Glacier National Park

One of my favorites from the day
I can't believe how much we packed into the last day, in fact I didn't realize how much we did until I looked through my pictures! We started the morning off early as usual and instead of one long hike we did two shorter ones.

First up was of course hubby's favorite.

There was some great scenery and Johns Lake was perfect at sunrise.

After we finished that short hike we headed over to what I'm calling the "other side of the park." When most people come in from West Glacier they head to Logan Pass (or at least that direction) and with good reason there is a lot to see over there, but if you go the opposite way the road is only paved for another 10 miles or so it's not crowded and it is stunning. We found a short one mile nature hike over there which was very different from what we had seen the previous days. This area of the park had been hit by fire not *too* long ago and it was mostly all new growth you can see a few of the dead trees is the picture below.

Short nature hike

It was just a mile loop but very pretty.
It was also very interesting, they had purposely set fire to this area as the bigger fire was coming this way in order to save Apagar Village and West Glacier. By setting fire they were able to take away all the fuel for the bigger fire and saved both towns.
Next up was a scenic twenty mile drive to Goat Lick Overlook.

As luck would have it we didn't see any mountain goats but it was a scenic drive!

This is apparently where the goats like to hang out.
After our drive to Goat Lick Overlook it was time to grab a quick dinner give Floppy his shot for the evening and go watch the sunset. We had yet to really go see the sunset anywhere just with our schedule was we were usually winding down early, but since it was our last full day there I was determined to see the best one possible and it did not disappoint. We drove to up Logan Pass to watch the sunset and as a bonus had time to hike about 2 miles on the Highline Trail which I would absolutely recommend, the first part is along the cliff wall and was amazing!

They have a rope you can hold on too if you feel like you need it.

You can see the trail on the far left and right of the picture as well as the road up to Logan Pass below.

Having fun taking pictures.

We even saw a few mountain goats!!

And we saw a big horn sheep!
And best of all we got to see an amazing sunset.

All in all a great last day in Glacier National Park
