He always paid attention to what was going on!

This was Flop right after we found him, skinny and scrawny.

Floppy's Birthday crown about 10 years ago.

Flop was such a good sport at Christmas!
It's been a while since I have posted and that's because we ended up having to put Flop to sleep. As you might remember from my "Meet Floppy" post he had been having a bit of a rough go of it. Over the summer we visited a few different vets (and an emergency vet) and even made a special trip back through Chicago just so he could go to his normal vet.

When he was diagnosed 3 years ago our vet said we probably had about 2 years so we feel lucky to have gotten 3. He started mid summer getting uti's and having breathing issues and his normally stable blood sugar was fluctuating wildly even though we had changed nothing. We spent the fall upping his insulin dose and he spent the last two months on antibiotics for his uti's. Poor Flop was at the vet at least once a week the last month. The last few days I noticed him drinking less and less water and having trouble urinating. In talking with the vet (who loved Flop as much as we did since his wife is allergic to dogs he always thought of Flop as his honorary dog) we decided the best thing for him was to let him go. Flop had a great last day getting to eat bacon cheeseburgers which he hadn't had in 3 years! He was great traveling dog and will be dearly missed!

He loved the dog runs at the various campgrounds.
Floppy LOVED snow, it was his favorite thing!

He was a great co-pilot and loved going for car rides.
